Egyptian young Abraham and Sarah brought from Memphis, where hunger had led them to seek asylum. God had promised the old patriarch a great prosperity; but the barrenness of Sara seemed to belie this promise and grieved to Abraham, which was already eighty-six years. Then Sara made a sacrifice; led herself to Agar to the bed of her husband, striving to overcome their scruples. Ismael was the fruit of that union. But having been Sara mother shortly afterwards, threw home to Hagar and Ishmael, who went wandering in the wilderness of Bersabee, until an angel socorrió them and comforted. Ishmael grew up and was powerful father, who one day should take precedence over that of Isaac and Jacob.
