Physician, astronomer and Court Jew, a distinguished Sevillian family and leader of the Jewish community in that city. It became vizier of the Muslim King of Seville Al - MuQtamid and, from that position, protected Jewish writers and intellectuals.
Several members of his family cultivated poetry in the period of the «golden age» of the Hebrew letters in Spain, in the time of Moisés ibn Ezra and Judah ha-Levi; both maintained close relations with the Seville vizier and dedicated him some poems. His name is mentioned even in some jarchas (sermonettes on romance or Arab people at the end of estroficos poems of the era) of these two great poets.
