Biography of Benito Alberti (s. XIV)

Florentine Patriot, who stood at the head of the Democratic Party in union with Silvestre de Médicis at the end of the 14th century. He/She made a violent opposition to the aristocratic party of that Republic, accusing it of Ghibelline. In 1378, he/she called the people to arms and started the terrible revolution of the Ciompi, then he/she wanted to appease. In 1382 the aristocracy toppled the party of Alberti, and this, with his friends, was banished in 1387 and died on the island of Rhodes.
