Biography of Duarte Coello de Alburquerque (¿-1658)

Portuguese Governor of San Salvador, who died in Madrid in 1658. He/She made his first expedition to the Brazil with his uncle Matías de Alburquerque. In 1638 he/she defended San Salvador against the Dutch. After the revolution which spread to Portugal from Spain, Alburquerque withdrew to Madrid, where Felipe IV appointed him gentil-hombre camera. He/She wrote war of the Brazil against the Netherlands in 1630 to 1639.
