Spanish painter, born in Ferrol (La Coruña) in 1875 and died in Madrid in 1960. Galician noble lineage, his father, marino's profession, died as Fernando a child. In 1922, when he was appointed director of the Museo del Prado, his artistic evolution opened a new stage characterized by portraits with Velasquez landscapes, as in that of Alfonso XIII and the Duchess of Santoña. With the fall of the monarchy, he settled in England and did not return to Spain until after the Civil War.
