Entrepreneur Spanish, born in Borondes (Asturias) in 1935, who is President of El Corte Inglés, one of the leading Spanish private companies, and President of the Board of Trustees of the Fundación Ramón Areces. Nephew of the deceased founder of the company, Ramón Areces, Isidoro Álvarez joined the staff of the company eighteen years of age, then through most of the departments of the company.
He took a degree in economic and business sciences at the Complutense University of Madrid, with extraordinary career award, in 1957. After occupying important positions in various subsidiary companies (Induyco and Mostoles Industrial), he/she was appointed general manager of El Corte Inglés, since he/she occupied until 1989. Two years earlier, in 1987, Isidoro Álvarez and other men of the management team of El Corte Inglés left the management positions in the Group Construcciones y Contratas, which broke a close relationship of more than 20 years.
On the death of Ramón Areces in 1989, the Board of Directors of this company chose Isidoro Álvarez President and general manager and President of the Fundación Ramón Areces. Since his appointment, Isidoro Álvarez has continued with its policy of development, ensuring the process of expansion of the chain which has continued to grow and diversify, since it intends to extend its business abroad.
His brilliant career has earned him public recognition as well as numerous prizes and awards, among which are some as "Entrepreneur of the year 1989" and the Juan Lladó award, received at the hands of Don Juan Carlos in 1995, considered the most prestigious award that are awarded in Spain for sponsorship activities. In 2002 he/she was again elected "Best entrepreneur of the year", awarded by the magazine Actualidad Económica award, and two years later, the Academy of history gave him the Gold Medal of the institution. In 2005, were the National Retailer Federation American traders who highlighted the figure of Álvarez as best entrepreneur of the year.
