Biography of Antonio Ascham (?-1650)

English politician, born in 1650. It belonged to the party of Presbyterians and was individual of the long Parliament. In 1659 he was sent as Ambassador of the Republic to Madrid, where some British officers who served in the Spanish army, entered into his home and killed him, with his interpreter Riva. England claimed the punishment of the guilty parties, but the nuncio of Pope Julio Rospigliosi objected, and although in the end they were indicted, only one suffered the death penalty, with which the British Government was satisfied.
