Biography of William Asher (1921-2012)

Director of American cinema, born in New York 1921 agoato 8 and died on 16 July 2012.

He made his debut as a film director with Leather gloves (1948), co-directed with Richard Quine. For many years he/she alternated cinema with different tasks in the world of television, these included the realization of episodes in some of the most popular TV series of the 1950s and 1960s, such as I love lucy, haunted and The twilight zone. After a hiatus of almost ten years, led The 27th day (1957), fantasy of science fiction about a group of five people of different races are kidnapped by aliens who must save the planet from destruction. In 1963 he/she got in touch with producers Samuel Z. Arkoff and James H. Nicholson, specialists in series B films that have worked, among others, with Roger Corman, and start directing for his production company, American International Pictures. Their first collaboration was a scandal on the beach (1963), which will be partner actor in most of his works for American, Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello. The success among the young audience led him to make a sequel the following year, Muscle Beach Party, and to specialize in vehicles for the couple in that sometimes they count with special guests, like Stevie Wonder in Bikini Beach, and Buster Keaton in Beach Blanket Bingo. The last of these films is Fireball 500, set in the world of car racing.

Apart from its beach environment productions, Johnny went cold (1963), considered by many his best film. Henry Silva gave life to a Sicilian gangster who plans his revenge against their former bosses. In a deal with unknown actors from the low-budget films that knows so well, highlighted the presence of a young Telly Savallas and a small part of Sammy Davis Jr.. It is one of the most sadistic thrillers of the 1960s. After his adventure film, he/she returned to devote himself almost entirely to television.
