Biography of William Beckford (1759-1844)

English writer, born in Fontill Gifford, Wiltshire, and died in Bath. Author who wrote in French, one of his best works Vathek, translated into English in 1786, received praise from Lord Byron. In this work we can see influences of Voltaire, in terms of the subject of oriental taste, remnants of the gothic novel and the Eroticism of the tales of the Marquis de Sade. He/She also wrote several travel books.
