Biography of José Luis Bustamante y Rivero (1894-1989)

Politician and Peruvian lawyer who was born in Arequipa and died in Lima. He/She was Minister of education and justice, Plenipotentiary Minister in Bolivia and Uruguay, and Ambassador to Bolivia. Candidate of the national democratic front in the presidential elections of 1945, triumphed with the support of the conservative sectors. He/She was deposed by the army in 1948, he/she was exiled in Geneva until 1956. Upon returning to Peru supported the Government of Prado. In 1961 he/she was appointed judge of the International Tribunal in the Hague.
