Biography of José María Egas (1896-1982)

Poet and Ecuadorian lawyer born in Bahia de Caraquez. He studied jurisprudence in Guayaquil and graduated as a lawyer in 1927. He stressed diplomacy, journalism, literature, and especially in the field of poetry, receiving the honor of being crowned national poet in 1976. Anointing and other poems (1941) and Canto a Guayaquil (1960) are his two most important works. He was also Professor at the University of Guayaquil.
