Biography of Octavio Farnesio (1520-1585)

Second Duke of Parma, who succeeded his father, Pedro Luis Farnesio, after his murder, born in 1520 and died in 1585. He conquered the State of Parma to living force, but could not buy Piacenza, until Pope Julio III put him in possession of it. He was a man of natural peaceful and restrained, which held a fruitful and prosperous reign over their States for thirty years. His marriage to Margarita, natural daughter of the Emperor Carlos V and Governor of the Netherlands, left a son, Alejandro.
