Biography of Eduardo Galeano (1940-VVVV)

Uruguayan writer, born in Montevideo, in 1940. Journalism he worked from the age of fourteen, age in which started drawing political cartoons, signed with the pseudonym of the "Gius". He was Chief Editor of the weekly progress of Montevideo between 1961 and 1964, and director of the daily time in the same city from 1964 to 1966.

In 1963 gave an interview to the last emperor of China, Puyi, which was published by the magazine March. This same interview, was reproduced entirely, in April 1988, by her successor, gap. Puyi was the inspiration for the film the last emperor, Bernardo Bertolucci.

Subsequently he was director of publications at the University of Uruguay from 1964 to 1973. Last year he had to exile from his country and moved to Buenos Aires where he founded the Crisis magazine, of which he was director until it stopped publishing.

In 1975 he received the Casa de las Américas Prize for his book the song of us dedicated to the city of Montevideo. The novel dealt with the complex issue of armed struggle and the relationship between the popular cultural sources and militancy on the left of the petty bourgeoisie, while towards a withdrawal from the machine as a system of oppression.

In 1976 he was again forced into exile and moved to Barcelona. Two years later the Casa de las Américas Prize in category testimony was awarded for the second time by the book days and nights of love and war where gather memories and personal vignettes about the last twenty years of the history of Latin America.

Returned to Uruguay in 1985, once restored democracy. He was one of the initiators of the Commission Pro Referendum in Uruguay against the law of end point.

In 1989 the memory of fire trilogy was awarded in United States with the American Book Award and was the theatre under the direction of the Chilean Alejandro Quintana in January 1992. On November 22, 1993 it presented in Madrid his errant words novel. This novel where he worked for three years, is illustrated by the Brazilian writer José Francisco Borges.
