Biography of Robert Greene (1558-1592)

English writer. He/She was born in Norwich. It belonged to the University Wits, group of theatre writers trained in the universities of Oxford and Cambridge. He/She led a happy and dissipated life. He/She is considered a forerunner of Shakespeare works as The Honorable History of Friar Bacon and Friar Bungay, 1594, by the introduction of scenes of farce, magic items, and mythological figures. Other works are: Pandosto, 1588; and Menaphon, 1589, both cult type. He/She left stories set in the world of London rogue as: Defense of scammers, 1592, the work considered as a precursor of the realism of Daniel Defoe.
