Biography of Robert Harley (1661-1724)

Earl of Oxford, English statesman, born in 1661 and died in 1724. He/She was Minister of Queen Anne; It destroyed the influence of the Marlborough and the Godolphin in 1710; It created real lotteries to fill the Queen's treasure, and negotiated the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713. Suddenly removed and locked up in prison in 1714 by the influence of Bolingbroke, he/she remained in the Tower of London until 1717. He/She was a rich collection of manuscripts, which exists today in the British Museum, and is known with the name of Harleyana collection.
