Biography of Leonor de Provenza (?-1291)

Queen of England, daughter of Raimundo Berenguer IV, count of Provence; married in 1236 to Enrique III, King of England and led to his court a large number of Proven├žal. The preference that Enrique gave foreigners produced a revolt of the barons, who made prisoner to the King, his brother and his youngest son; fleeing the Queen. Three years later he/she returned, and on the death of her husband, which took place in 1272, retired to the convent of Ambresbury, where he/she finished his days in 1291.
