Biography of Papa Marcelo II (1555)

Elected in 1555 as a successor of Julius III, he/she served for twenty-one days. His real name was Marcelo Cervino and was born 6 may 1501 Montepulciano. He/She was Secretary of the Farnesio Cardinal and Bishop of Nicastro in 1539, and promoted to Cardinal the same year. As papal legate he/she presided at the Council of Trent. He/She was man of high hopes for its virtues, particularly his prudence and the knowledge of the true situation and the needs of the Church. He/She began the work of the reform of the Church. He/She was succeeded by Paulo IV.
