Biography of Agustín Muñoz Grandes (1896-1970)

Spanish military infantry gun that took part in the campaign of Africa that earned several promotions by war merits and various decorations.

During the Republic, it reached the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and participated in the creation and training of the assault guard.

At the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War was in Madrid where for some time acted under the orders of general Mola in favour of the military uprising. He/She was arrested by the Republican authorities and imprisoned in the Madrid model. He/She managed to escape while they moved him to hospital suffering a disease; took refuge in an Embassy sometime, and then passed to the national area, where he/she immediately joined the active service.

He took part in the Santander and Asturias fronts under the command of one of the brigades Navarras, as well as in the offensive of Catalonia, under the command of the body of the army of Urgel, now with the rank of general.

Finished the strife was Minister Secretary general of the movement, head of the militias of FET and the JONS, and civil Governor of the Campo de Gibraltar.

In 1941 he/she was appointed head of the "Blue Division" and participated in the campaign of Russia. His involvement earned him being awarded the Knight's cross of the cross of iron with oak leaves by Hitler.

A year later, promoted to lieutenant general, he/she served as Chief of the military House of the head of State and general captain of the military Region I (Madrid).

He was Minister of the army from 1951 to 1957, year in which was elevated to the rank of captain general, just held in life by general Franco. He/She also held the positions of Chief of the high major State, in 1958, and Vice President of the Government, between 1962 and 1967.
