Bullfighter Spanish, born in Cartagena (Murcia) on December 27, 1953. Considered one of the leading figures in bullfighting in the Decade of the 1980s, in later times, and in the midst of a pronounced decline in his career, was the subject of media attention for his marriage with the popular popular singer Rocío Jurado.

At the age of four he/she moved with his family to the Madrid town of San Sebastián de los Reyes, famous for her bullfighting and some closures that have earned him the nickname of "La Pamplona Chica". There the young José Ortega felt the awakening of his vocation bullfighter, vocation that led him, just being a kid, to intervene in the past shows organized by Blas Romero ("El Platanito").

Thus, after foguear in the kinds of coating, banderillas and crutch in the serious part that often accompanies such charades, decided to take on solo career bullfighter, which is donned his first suit of lights in the Barcelona Bullring of Las Arenas on July 15, 1972. After intervening in various novilladas without itching, debuted with varilargueros on September 9, 1973, at the Madrid arena of Vista Alegre, accompanied in the cartel by the young bullfighters Frédéric Pascal and Juan Lucas. That afternoon, at which ran a closure from the blemish of don Pío Tabernero de Vilvis, José Ortega Cano cut an ear to his first enemy, and let in the respectable that pleasant feeling of continuity that transmit the bullfighters in the making when they are encouraged by a classical conception of bullfighting.

So, undertook a bright novilleril campaign that enabled him to be at the top of the ladder at the end of the 1974 season, just before the decisive step of becoming a bullfighter. Indeed, on October 12 of that year, in the ring of Zaragoza, it took the alternative from the hands of his godfather, the Alicante Bullfighter José María Dols Abellán ("José Mari Manzanares"), who, in the presence of the Jaen sword Francisco Bautista Cruz ("Paco Bautista"), making the times of witness, gave him tackle that had of dealing and stock Pedilleroa burel bragado black who had grown up in the meadows of don José Luis Osborne. Thereafter, he/she began to experience the first of the potholes that have been populating pronounced ups and downs its long bullfighting history. It failed to gain a foothold among the elite lidiadores after taking the alternative, so it took four years to get an opportunity that would allow him to appear before the first love of the world.

Finally, on May 14, 1978 he/she did his first paseíllo through the Roundel of the plaza Monumental de Las Ventas (Madrid), in confirmation of an alternative sponsored by the coletudo Antonio García Rojas ("Antonio Rojas") Albacete. There, in the presence of the manchego Bullfighter Lorenzo Manuel Díaz Villalta("Lorenzo Manuel Villalta"), he/she appeared as a witness, José Ortega Cano gelled a brilliant performance before his two enemies, marked with iron Sotillo Gutiérrez. After this confirmation of alternative, his career returned to flight, and in the San Isidro fair in the following year got "Mayte" and "Cordoba House" trophies to the best lunge of the cycle; by the way that in the course of such fair José Ortega suffered its first Goring of gravity, inferred on May 28, 1979 by a horned belonging to the breeding of Victorino Martín, who injured him seriously at the time came to kill. That afternoon, had also made the paseíllo manchego sword Morcillo Mayor Francisco ("Paco Alcalde") and the coletudo Spaniard Pedro Fernández Gómez ("child of Aranjuez").

At the end of the 1979 season, José Ortega Cano traveled to Latin America to fight in Peru, thus beginning a long series of wins obtained in outlying places. Back in Spain, in the 1980 campaign intervened in 26 celebrations, to plunge into the bottom of the ladder in the two following seasons. He/She resurfaced in 1983, year in which 27 Cuadrillas, and in 1984 began to consecrate herself as one of the matadors pointers of the ladder higher, mostly a result of his performance in Madrid, on September 14, date in which shared the poster with the vallisoletan Roberto Domínguez Díaz and the soriano José Luis Palomar Romero to confront a closure on the rangelands of Doña Pilar Población. That evening, Ortega Cano cut an ear to a sañudo bikes that had inferred you a Goring in the chest.

At the end of this campaign of 1984, which had dressed lights on 23 occasions, he/she went back to Latin America to succeed, successively, in Venezuela, Mexico and Colombia. Returned to Spain, he/she walked some lucky during the 1985 season, but not as well in the next, in which it harvested two of the most hits of his career, the first of them took place in Madrid, on May 22, 1986, when José Ortega Cano desorejó José Antonio Carter Pérez to a burel of don Baltasar Ibán in the presence of the salmantino right-handed Pedro Gutiérrez Moya ("child of the Capea") and the Toledo sword. His second resounding victory of that year was also verified in the coso venteno, this time in a hand held hand with the ill-fated Avila Bullfighter Avelino Julio Robles Hernández ("Julio Robles"). It was on September 12, 1986, date in which the matador from Cartagena, in addition to showing off in several quites that remain in the memory of the good fans, cut two ears and returned to be brought to shoulder through the front door. So things, wrapped up by the resonance which gives Madrid these triumphs achieved in its square, at the end of the 1986 season, José Ortega Cano had dressed the suit of lights at eighty-two times; Subsequently, he/she returned to cross the Atlantic to show off in the main squares of Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela and Peru.

The beginning of the following marketing year could not be more encouraging, since on April 20, 1987, in the Gallic arena of Arles, before the Madrid swords Lucio Sandín Sayago and José Miguel Arroyo Delgado, who cut two ears to don Santiago Martín, triumph that earned him the trophy "César Girón" which there is given to the winner of the fair's livestock. A month and a half later returned to open wide the leaves of the gate of Madrid, after having obtained two headphones appendices of two bulls of the cattle ranch of don Felipe Bartolome. It was, at the time, on June 2, 1987, date in which accompanied Ortega Cano on cartels the aforementioned Julio Robles and the manchego lidiador Antonio Sánchez Fernández ("Sánchez port").

During the 1987 campaign he/she wore lights at seventy-two times, not counting the thirteen Cuadrillas made in France and subsequent bullfights that dealt in America. On October 13 of that year, in the course of the Feria del Pilar Zaragoza, a bull dealt a serious Goring in the chest that was almost killed. After replacement, the Carthaginian matador undertook walk the way of Santiago, in a hard pilgrimage that came to fulfill the promise high during his harrowing convalescence.

But the severity of this injury was not enough to make Ortega Cano lost the post of honor which was then ranked among the leading figures of the ladder: in 1988 he/she signed and completed sixty-eight settings in Spain, to sixty-six Cuadrillas in 1989 and sixty-three in 1990, he/she was appointed President of the National Association of matadors from bullfightingBullfighters and Rejoneadores. He/She finished the following campaign having intervened in fifty-nine festivities, and in the next sixty-one contracts signed. From 1993 he/she returned to suffer a downturn in his art, and as a result, the number of offers that point-blank: that year dealt only forty-nine runs, although it recovered slightly in the campaign of 1994, which reached to comply with sixty-two adjustments. At the beginning of the following year, when he/she was bullfighting in Cartagena de Indias (Colombia) on January 6, a bull of the iron of Mondoñedo that catered to the voice of Buenmocito inferred you a serious Goring in the lumbar area, that he/she even do fear for his life. However, the right-hander overcame the trance and returned to Madrid to face two serious commitments: marriage with Rocío Juradoand debuting in the Valencian cycle failures.

Perhaps because of this Colombian Goring, perhaps because of the castle of coated paper that raised your wedding, or perhaps by the legitimate - but wrong - desire excessively prolong a career that was already in Frank decadence, the truth is that from 1995 Ortega Cano appeared increasingly insecure and obscured, leaving a painful impression that nothing reminiscent of the cheerful and varied capoteador in many placesthe rehiletero agile and precise, the muletero firm and elegant, and the accurate and determined matador who was years ago the Cartagena right-handed. In addition, the continuous airing of his life private increased the inquina of certain critical sectors of the fans, who saw the journalistic promotion of a bullfighter with bad eyes for reasons unrelated to the strict nature of the party. Even so, and despite the deterrent failures that came, in the 1997 campaign, he/she was fifty-seven settings, and returned to step on the arenas of all important places of the planet of the bulls in the 1998. There was - in this latest season-announced its definitive withdrawal from the active practice of bullfighting, circumstance whose emotions were not enough to restore him favor with who - ever more - censored his appearance in the arenas. Finally, in the course of the autumn fair in Madrid decided to say goodbye to the first love of the world shutting themselves alone with six wild bulls, in an Honorable gesture of shame Bullfighter that, eventually, and given its circumstantial loss of resources, remained alone in that.

It remained away from the arenas of 1999 and 2000 seasons, but returned to the albero to give continuity to his Bullfighter vocation for three years more. He/She reappeared on March 3, 2001 in plaza de Olivenza (Badajoz) forming terna with Spartacus and Jesulín de Ubrique, dexterous which also reappeared after a long absence. It failed with the rapier in the first of his batch and cut off an ear to the second. In the latter you bars of his career, Ortega Cano served the hobby tasks of unequal merit in Spanish and American squares until recently released the summer of 2003, on his return from the fight in France, announced its decision to withdraw irrevocable. His final adieu arrived on the afternoon of November 21, 2003, after an emotional performance at Vistalegre, Madrid square where the right-hander had debuted as a bullfighter in 1973. It dealt six bulls of several farms and cut three ears in a run for charity.
