Biography of Juan Ríos Ovalle (1863-1928)

Puerto Rican composer, born in Ponce in 1863 and died in 1928, family of musicians. It was formed in the Orchestra of Juan Morel Campos, which made first clarinet. Author of dance characterized by its high lyrical character, Ríos Ovalle succeeded his master, who died prematurely in 1896, as the most genuine representative of the tradition ponceña danzistica.

Paseo de Ovalle dances is arrhythmic and his Orchestra used the güiro as the only percussion instrument. He is the author of "Angelina", "Teresa", "Rain of pearls", "Odalisque" and "La Graciosita".
