(Shat-tu-a-ra) King of Mitanni-Khanigalbat, son and successor of Mattiwaza. Shattuara I had to deal with the Assyrian occupation troops, and after the war to Adad-Nirari I was defeated by this King, who, however, tolerated Shattuara I to continue on the throne of Mitanni, but as tributary, after making him swear loyalty. On his death, the country passed into the hands of his son Washshasatta.
